Speaker Spotlight: John Ford of Automattic

John presently works for Automattic, focusing his attention on VaultPress, a security scanning and realtime backup service for WordPress.org users. Passion for coding is what motivates John, but some people are beginning to question his attachment to his iPad. Mix equal parts beautiful code writer, lover of healthy living, world traveler, living room DJ, and community giver and you’ll have the geek known as John Ford.

John will be presenting on the topic of Security: Be a Super Hero in the Developers track.  Here’s an extract from what you can expect to hear from John:

There are bad people in the world. Some kick puppies, others steal candy from babies. But I think we can all agree the worst offenders are those that try to exploit WordPress sites. Together we’ll explore the twisted minds of these sick individuals and the tricks they use to get into our sites. Using real code examples, our discussion will cover how sites get exploited, which will lead us to a discussion on fixing exploited sites, and then – naturally – what should be done to prevent attacks in the first place. With just a few impressive super powers of our own, we’ll show those tricksters what it takes to be a real super hero, and in the process prevent a potentially massive headache.
