Our latest addition to our WordCamp Raleigh Speaker lineup is a very well known person in the WordPress community, Lisa Sabin-Wilson, who is a creative designer and owner of E.Webscapes Design Studio and the author of both WordPress For Dummies and BuddyPress For Dummies (Wiley Pub.).
Session:
“Building Online Communities with BuddyPress”
This session will take you on a tour through this year’s hottest open source product on the market: BuddyPress. BuddyPress is a suite of core plugins for the WordPress platform that enables any web site owner the ability to run a fully-interactive social network on their own web site.
Learn all about BuddyPress features that allow you to take your WordPress site to the next level by engaging a community on your own web site through dynamic features such as: * Extended Profiles * Friends * Private Messaging * Activity Wires * Blog Tracking * Status Updates * …and more!
Discover how web sites today are putting BuddyPress to great use on their own domain and explore the question of who should own YOUR content, YOUR traffic and YOUR community.
Bio:
For 10 years, Lisa has been consulting, helping to support, and providing custom solutions for web site owners using different content management platforms such as WordPress, Movable Type, Expression Engine and TypePad, to name a few.
She has also used a variety of different social media platforms, in particular BuddyPress, which gives individuals and small businesses the ability to host a niche, social community on their own web site.
Lisa is a ‘sometimes‘ public speaker at national conferences, on the topic of blogging, WordPress and social media. She has given past presentations at WordCamp Chicago & New York City and Think Tank Live Social Media Summit. She is also a speaker at the upcoming F5 Expo on Business Strategies.
When Lisa is not designing great websites, speaking publicly, or writing books about WordPress, design, blogging and social media – you can usually find her scuba diving or downhill skiing or just relaxing with her family, enjoying a good cup of espresso and a good book or movie.
