We selected the venue for WordCamp Raleigh following an extensive search and review of suitable locations. Our decision to hold the event at the Sheraton Raleigh Hotel was driven by two factors – Location and Service.
Location
For those of you visiting Raleigh for the first time or who don’t regularly travel to Raleigh, you will find a beautiful city that has undergone a recent downtown transformation. Central to this transformation is the area around the Sheraton Raleigh Hotel and the neighboring Raleigh Convention Center.
The area, Fayetteville Street, extends from the historic State Capitol at one end, south to the newly completed Convention Center and Progress Energy Center for Performing Arts. Along the way you will find distinctive restaurants and bars, impressive skyscrapers mixed among restored historic buildings. Central to this historic area is the Sheraton Raleigh Hotel, with its beautiful open atrium, contemporary design, and award winning amenities.
Service
The staff at the Sheraton Raleigh Hotel have been extremely helpful to the volunteers who are organizing WordCamp Raleigh. We know that this southern hospitality will extend to those of you staying at the hotel during the event or just visiting for the day of the conference. For anyone who has experienced the complexities and challenges of organizing an event of this type, you will no doubt agree that having a good team to work with at the venue is a huge help and reduces some of the stress of planning an event of this size and type. The staff at the Sheraton Raleigh Hotel will ensure that this event is a success and that we all enjoy our stay in the City of Oaks.
I will write more over the coming weeks about Raleigh, the downtown area, and some of the attractions our beautiful city has to offer visitors. I hope you enjoy your time in Raleigh and enjoy WordCamp!
